God of War Future: Transition to Egyptian Mythology?
Since the arrival of Ragnarok in 2022, God of War fans have been speculating about the future of the series, especially the possibility of transitioning to a new mythology, Egyptian. In February of this year, Tom Henderson shared on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast that the new God of War “does not take place in Egypt, but actually unfolds in Ancient Greece and will feature a young Kratos this time”, with a story that will explore Kratos’ relationship with his father. He now suggests that God of War will move to Egypt.
Potential Egyptian Setting for Next God of War Game
In the latest edition of Insider Gaming Weekly, focused on today’s new State of Play, Henderson discussed the God of War series and mentioned that besides the unannounced metroidvania, the next game in the main line is in production with themes similar to Ragnarok. According to Henderson, Kratos will use an Egyptian sword, once again suggesting that the series will take place in Egypt, a possibility that has not been publicly commented on by Sony Santa Monica but may align with the producer’s plans, as it was an option instead of the Norse mythology.
