Ghost of Yotei Receives High Praise from Famitsu Critics
Ghost of Yotei impressed critics at the Japanese Famitsu, who were on the verge of placing it among a very exclusive group of video games. In the latest edition of the magazine, the game scored 39 out of 40, with three 10s and one 9 from the four critics analyzing Sucker Punch’s new title.
Close to Perfect Score at Famitsu
With a near-perfect score of 39 out of 40, Ghost of Yotei almost reached the pinnacle at Famitsu, a feat achieved only by four Western games to date. In 2011, Bethesda’s Skyrim became the first Western game to score a perfect 40 at Famitsu, followed by GTA 5 in 2013. Seven years later, Ghost of Tsushima joined the elite group as the third Western game to achieve a perfect score, just one number shy of what Ghost of Yotei accomplished.
Since 1986, only 30 games have received a perfect score at Famitsu, with just four of them being Western titles. The most recent game to achieve this feat was Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which was released in January 2024.
In our review of Ghost of Yotei, we were impressed by its visuals, combat, and world, stating:
“Ghost of Yōtei is not a bad game, quite the opposite. It is good entertainment that provided me with several hours of satisfaction, but also some boring moments. There is a feeling that it is a perfect work in many technical aspects, but lacks that creative touch that would make it memorable.”
