The Lord of the Rings Saga Continues
The Lord of the Rings saga is thriving, with multiple projects in the works: in addition to The Rings of Power, which was a huge success on Prime Video, there will also be multiple films including The War of the Rohirrim and The Hunt for Gollum.
Viggo Mortensen’s Potential Return
Andy Serkis is set to direct the latter film, and the team is trying to bring in a heavy hitter from the original trilogy – Viggo Mortensen, who portrayed Aragorn.
Screenwriter Philippa Boyens revealed that the actor has been in talks and she can’t imagine anyone else playing the character.
Potential Involvement of Viggo Mortensen
“It honestly all depends on Viggo,” she said. “I’ve spoken to Viggo, Andy [Serkis] has spoken to him, Peter [Jackson] has spoken to him, we’ve all talked to each other and, honestly, I can’t imagine anyone else playing Aragorn, but it all depends on Viggo.”
In the same interview, Boyens mentioned that director Andy Serkis is against using artificial intelligence and Viggo’s involvement will depend on the quality of the script.
“And he doesn’t even have a script yet. So, to be fair to Viggo, let’s see if we can write a good enough role for him and if he can find a performance in it that he wants to take on. After that, it’s up to Viggo and Andy on how that will be achieved.”
Lastly, it is revealed that even if the actor doesn’t accept the role, the producers would still like him to be highly involved in the project.
