Microsoft Gaming has closed four studios, including TangoGameworks of Hi-Fi Rush, as part of a new strategy for Bethesda, focusing on their main properties. However, they are also interested in developing smaller scale games capable of winning awards, similar to Hi-Fi Rush.
According to TheVerge, Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, spoke to Microsoft’s gaming division employees about the company’s goals, surprising many with his words. “We need smaller games that give us prestige and awards,” Booty told employees, a day after closing TangoGameworks, which developed Hi-Fi Rush, a smaller scale game that brought coveted awards to Microsoft Gaming.
Hi-Fi Rush was widely praised by Microsoft Gaming’s top executives, from Phil Spencer highlighting the team’s creativity in Japan to Aaron Greenberg publicly defending the game as a success in all metrics.
These words made the closure of TangoGameworks even more shocking to the community, and when combined with Booty’s statements, things get even more bizarre.
