Street Fighter 6 burst onto the scene on June 2, 2023, and nearly a year later, it saw a massive surge in popularity that brought it to the brink of breaking the record for the highest number of players on Steam, Valve’s digital PC platform.
Impact of Akuma’s Arrival
When Akuma made his debut on May 22, droves of players couldn’t resist diving into Street Fighter 6 to experience this new iteration of Capcom’s legendary series. This led to the second-highest number of simultaneous players in the game’s history.
Record Number of Players
According to SteamDB, on May 22, a whopping 70,202 players were concurrently immersed in Street Fighter 6 on Steam, coming close to the all-time high of 70,573 players during the launch week. Although the game didn’t top 40,000 players simultaneously after its initial release in 2023, it wasn’t until February 2024, with the introduction of Ed, that it finally crossed the 46,000-player mark.
This surge showcases the impact of Akuma’s inclusion in the game, nearly breaking the record for the number of players in Street Fighter 6, solidifying its status as the top fighting game on Steam.
