The creators of the anime Dan Da Dan are in hot water after a tribute to X Japan led to concerns about plagiarism. In episode 6 of season 2, the fictional band HAYASii performed “Hunting Soul”, a clear homage to X Japan. The original Japanese version featured Kisho Taniyama, while the English version had Mac Hudson from DragonForce on vocals.
The viral moment reached over 8 million views in just two weeks, but the music was removed from streaming services due to legal threats. Science Saru and the team behind Dan Da Dan have issued an apology to X Japan and Yoshiki, expressing their intentions of paying tribute.
In an effort to make things right, they are currently in discussions with X Japan and Yoshiki’s representatives to secure the rights for the music. They admit they should have consulted all parties involved beforehand, but their goal remains to honor Yoshiki and X Japan with their work. Stay tuned for a potential collaboration with Yoshiki in Dan Da Dan!
