The animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” is now available on Disney+, with the first two out of ten episodes showcasing a new version of Peter Parker in his high school days as he becomes Spider-Man. The show takes place in a secondary universe separate from the main Marvel Cinematic Universe explored in the live-action films, according to the main creatives behind the series.
Creative Freedom Outside the MCU’s “Sacred Timeline”
Initially, the plan was to set “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” in the main universe before the events of Captain America: Civil War, depicting Peter’s life before Tony Stark’s involvement. However, the creators decided to take a different approach. In a recent interview, Jeff Trammell disclosed that the series exists outside the “sacred timeline” of the MCU, giving them more creative freedom and avoiding restrictions of the main timeline.
Despite being in a separate universe, the animated series will still make references to similar events and include characters like Daredevil, Wilson Fisk, and Doctor Strange. Viewers can now enjoy the animated adventures of Spider-Man in a universe where anything can happen.
