Red Dead Redemption is on its way to PlayStation 4, PS5 (through the PS4 version), and Nintendo Switch, but part of the Rockstar Games community is still stunned by the announcement made earlier this week.
Rockstar Games announced a direct port of Red Dead Redemption, without announcing any improvements or even a native PS5 version or PC version. On Xbox, the game is available through Microsoft’s own backward compatibility technology, and Rockstar Games is keeping things as they were on that platform.
For many players, the most confusing aspect is the absence of a PC version and why Rockstar Games chose to seemingly treat one of their most beloved games lightly, which will arrive on new platforms through the efforts of Double Eleven Studios.
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, was questioned about this after the latest conference with investors, where he also talked about pricing, and he said that the PC version is a decision of Rockstar Games themselves and that the treatment depends on the creator’s vision.
“It depends on the creative teams’ vision for the game and in the absence of a strong vision, for something that would be done with a title, it may be presented in its original state, we’ve already done that, and in certain cases, we can do a remaster or remake, so it really depends on the game and how the company feels about it, the platform, and what we think is the opportunity for consumers.”
Red Dead Redemption arrives on August 17th on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo Switch eShop, and on October 13th at retailers.
