Although Bethesda has not yet announced the remake of the acclaimed classic The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, numerous unofficial sources continue to talk about the project as if it were more than certain, scheduled for 2025 and as one of Microsoft Gaming’s multi-platform efforts.
After comments about an Unreal Engine 5 remake of Oblivion, produced by Virtuos with the support of Bethesda, MP1st recalls that in September 2023 the producer’s release schedule was discovered, in which mention was made of a new DOOM and the Oblivion remake/remaster, but also says it has news about the project.
According to MP1st, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake is indeed in development, something that a Virtuos employee let slip, will arrive in the summer of 2025, and is a game “completely reimagined” with Unreal Engine 5, with a special focus on renewing the Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and HUD elements.
This Virtuos employee mentioned on their website that they worked on overhauling the blocking system, with ideas taken from Soulslike games, the stealth system was improved, and the damage and blocking calculation methods were redone. The stamina system was modified to be less annoying, and the interface was updated to be more aesthetically pleasing and easy to interpret. Additionally, the arrow usage system was updated to meet the standards of more recent games.
These findings shared by MP1st indicate that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion will have a remake rather than a remaster, with significant improvements and refinement that go far beyond a mere definitive version.
