Shuhei Yoshida and The Last Guardian
Shuhei Yoshida, the former big boss at PlayStation, played a key role in getting The Last Guardian out into the world. This game was created by Fumito Ueda, the genius behind Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.
The Last Guardian was originally meant for the PS3, but it gave Team Ico a major headache. They wanted Trico to move in a super realistic way, but the PS3 just couldn’t handle the sheer size and complexity of the character. So, the game chugged along at a measly 10-15 frames per second, with no way to bump it up.
Challenges and Determination
Most publishers would have tossed the game aside at this point, but Yoshida was determined. He was all in on Ueda’s vision and was dead set on making sure fans got to experience it. He pushed the development team to keep going, no matter what. And in 2016, The Last Guardian finally made its way to the PS4.
Reception and Feedback
Sadly, the game didn’t quite hit the mark with everyone. Some players had issues with Trico’s AI and the clunky controls. What about you? Did you enjoy The Last Guardian?
