In July 2024, Nintendo took legal action against Ryan Daly, who was accused of operating a store called “Modded Hardware” where he sold modified Nintendo Switch consoles and devices that enabled playing pirated versions of Nintendo games on unmodified hardware. Nintendo decided to pursue legal action after Daly continued his business despite being asked to stop. Six complaints were presented in court regarding his store and services.
Daly has reached an agreement with Nintendo and will not go to court. He has agreed to pay $2 million and sign a document stating that he will never again modify Nintendo consoles or provide services that could enable the use of unauthorized software on their systems. Additionally, Daly is prohibited from collaborating with others or sharing his knowledge with anyone who may engage in such activities, as he could be accused of facilitating piracy on Nintendo systems.
