Shirley Curry, the beloved “Skyrim Grandma”, steps back from YouTube
Shirley Curry, the 87-year-old woman affectionately known as the “Skyrim Grandma”, has decided to retire from YouTube, putting an end to over a decade of sharing her love for Bethesda’s Skyrim with her fans.
In her latest video, Mrs. Curry candidly reveals her reasons for ceasing video creation: “I am tired and no longer find joy in it.” Although she had previously announced a hiatus about a year ago, she made a brief return before halting content creation once more. In 2025, she delighted fans by sharing videos of her playing Oblivion Remastered.
Changing audience dynamics and personal factors
Mrs. Curry cites a significant shift in her audience demographics as a contributing factor to her decision. While she still has adult followers, the majority of her viewers are now children. These younger fans often leave heartfelt messages addressing her as if she were their own grandmother, leading her to reassess the need for creating new content.
Additionally, Mrs. Curry acknowledges that her age played a role in her choice, but she promises to occasionally post vlogs for her long-time, adult supporters who have stood by her throughout the years.
Despite her retirement from YouTube, Shirley Curry will be forever remembered by Bethesda in their upcoming game installment. Her unwavering passion for Skyrim has not gone unnoticed by the game producer, who even invited her to the studio for a special meeting with the team and Todd Howard.
