The Witcher 4: Ciri as the Main Character – Why it Works
Actor Doug Cockle’s Take
Some fans weren’t too thrilled with CD Projekt Red’s decision to make Ciri the protagonist in The Witcher 4, claiming the studio was being too “woke” by shifting the focus from Geralt. But Doug Cockle, the voice behind Geralt, sees things differently.
Cockle thinks it’s refreshing to have a new character leading the way in The Witcher universe. He believes, “It’s cool to see a different character take the lead in The Witcher. I think it’s awesome. You can’t just have Geralt in every Witcher game forever.” He also pointed out that Geralt’s story wrapped up nicely in Blood and Wine.
Unleashing Ciri’s Potential
According to Cockle, there’s a whole lot more to Ciri that we didn’t get to see in The Witcher 3. He urges fans to dive into the books to truly grasp why CD Projekt Red went with Ciri for the new game.
He said, “Celebrate Ciri, I celebrate her being the protagonist. So, if you think it’s too ‘woke,’ read the damn books first. They’re good. And you won’t think it’s overly woke.”
