Invited by DICE and Electronic Arts, we had the privilege of playing a good portion of Battlefield 2042’s Season 5, New Dawn, in advance. As always with each new season, new content is added, from maps, weapons, improvements to enhance the overall state of the game to more substantial changes that meet the community’s demands. We have already mentioned the contents of this new season in a separate article.
New Reclaimed Map
First addressing the new Reclaimed map, located in the Czech Republic and inspired by Battlefield 4, what catches my attention the most in these new maps is their slightly smaller size (still large) compared to the original Battlefield 2042 maps. They are big enough, but not to the point of overwhelming the player like the previous ones, their size no longer discourages movement across the game terrain. Reclaimed is further proof of this, showing that when something is done with thought, the result is much more enticing.
This new map offers various engagement options. As always, we can approach with vehicles, but above all, it has good infantry cover zones due to the interesting routes that allow advancement without being quickly spotted by the enemy. There are several cover points, and it is noticeable that care was taken to place certain obstacles in strategic areas. The time I played was quite rewarding, and it was clear that DICE is being much more careful in crafting the maps.
Breakthrough and Conquest
I played several matches of Breakthrough and Conquest, with capture zones placed in acceptable locations that were suitable for the game modes. I did not notice any imbalance and had good battles in both game modes.
Breakthrough was successful, both defending and attacking. Obviously, it always depends on each team’s ability, but I did not notice that the course of the confrontations was dictated by map construction imbalances. Conquest also unfolded naturally, with flags in the right places and the map being important for all types of approaches. Reclaimed is another quality map to add to the already vast array that Battlefield 2042 holds.
It is also worth mentioning that Season 5 will later feature the redesign of the Hourglass map, being the last one to be remodeled. As always, it will be reduced in size for quicker action. Terrain modifications will include more cover and even the reconstruction of some areas and new additions. All to enhance the gaming experience.

Weapons and Gadgets
In the section dedicated to weapons and gadgets, we have several new additions that increase the variety of choices. Weapons like the XCE Bar allow players to switch between various attachment options, the GWE-46, a favorite from Battlefield 4, offers high stability with a short burst in medium-range combat. In addition to these weapons, we have the hand cannon BFP.50 for causing significant burning damage. Gadgets like the Spring Grenade, Anti-Tank Grenade, and Mini Grenade offer a variety of detonations in combat – from small grenades that bounce in the air to grenade beams that detonate on impact and micro grenades that can be thrown faster and farther than normal grenades.
In summary, this is another season filled with novelties that once again extend the longevity of Battlefield 2042. Let’s not forget that Season 5 New Dawn comes with the always desirable Battle Pass, rewarding players with new rewards for the time spent playing. See you on the battlefield, soldier!
