Leslye Headland, the main responsible for the series Star Wars: The Acolyte on Disney+, says that some of the scenes in the last episode of the first season were inspired by the final scenes of Fight Club, a movie by David Fincher.
Headland mentions that the scenes in which the two figures look into the abyss were thought of as a reflection on the ending of the film Fight Club, both visually and thematically.
“It was equally a happy accident and intentional,” Headland told Vulture. “While preparing the scene, I realized what it was and then made sure it felt as much like that as possible. These two are going to set the world on fire. The dramatic irony is that they certainly won’t get far enough to take down the part of the world that tells them they can’t exist.”
“Fight Club was a huge influence for me. It’s about being trapped in institutions and expectations. Tyler Durden has a lot of appeal because, despite some of the things he encourages becoming increasingly frightening, the idea is very seductive,” Headland added.
According to the interview, there are several scenes and character arcs that were conceived with inspiration from Fight Club, specifically the character Tyler Durden. The final scenes, which suggest a new beginning and a sea of possibilities ahead for two characters, were thought of based on Fincher’s work.
