Microsoft lays off 9,000 employees, including Forza MotorSport team
Recently, Microsoft made the decision to lay off around 9,000 employees, with a significant number of them being from various Xbox studios, such as Turn 10 Studios, the team responsible for Forza MotorSport. This move has sparked concerns about the future of the Forza MotorSport series, as nearly half of the employees were affected.
End of an Era for Forza MotorSport?
Following the layoffs, Fred Russell, a former content coordinator at Turn 10 Studios, shared a message on Facebook that strongly suggests the end of the Forza MotorSport series. Russell mentioned, “Turn 10 Studios has closed the chapter on Forza MotorSport, and the team no longer exists. A very sad day for one of the best car racing games. I loved my time there.”
Addressing inquiries about the situation, Russell hinted at the possibility of Microsoft Gaming selling Playground Games, which could potentially impact the ability of Turn 10 employees to transition there. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the future, Russell emphasized that “the legacy remains, even if there is no future for the game,” a sentiment that will surely disappoint players who have a deep connection to Forza MotorSport.
