No Man’s Sky Breaks Record Player Numbers on Steam Following New Update
The space simulation game No Man’s Sky, developed by Hello Games, has achieved its highest number of concurrent players on Steam since its release in 2016, thanks to the launch of the Voyagers update. Data from SteamDB shows that the peak reached 98,285 players, surpassing the previous record of 97,723 players set after the Next update in 2018. This growth comes nine years after the game’s initial launch, which saw 212 thousand simultaneous players but dropped to about a thousand in March 2018.
Voyagers Update Introduces Ship Customization Feature
The Voyagers update marks the 38th major update to the game and introduces the ability for players to fully customize Corvette ships, enabling them to create ships with multiple interior levels and various thematic styles. This feature builds upon the ship editor introduced in the Orbital update from the previous year, which allowed players to construct standard ships for personal use. While acquiring parts in the standard mode can be intricate, the community has swiftly generated a variety of designs, ranging from ships inspired by movies and series to entirely original creations, many of which have been shared on forums.
Sean Murray, the director of Hello Games, emphasizes the challenge of implementing this feature in a game released almost a decade ago, attributing the update’s success to the team’s ongoing efforts in consistently delivering major updates. Over the past twelve months, Hello Games has also released the Worlds Part I and II updates, alongside Voyagers, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining a high level of production activity and focusing on enhancing gameplay and game creation tools.
