Ubisoft Changes Description of Yasuke in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
Ubisoft has changed the description of Yasuke, one of the protagonists in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, no longer referring to him as a samurai. This historical doubt sparked numerous criticisms towards the company when the game was revealed last year.
Yasuke: A Powerful Warrior Equivalent to Dozens
Through the Japanese page of the game on Steam, it is now stated that Yasuke is not referred to as a samurai. Instead, players will have the opportunity to “take on the role of Naoe, a skilled ninja assassin, and Yasuke, a warrior Ikki Tousen, traveling through the beautiful open world in the Sengoku era.”
This update on the Japanese Steam page, thanks to ResetEra, now describes Yasuke as “a powerful warrior equivalent to dozens of warriors,” a clear distinction from the previous description. The term “Ikki Tousen” is used to portray a warrior of great power without categorizing them as a samurai, which caused much discussion, even prompting an official response from the government.
