Morio Kishimoto Discusses Sonic Frontiers Modding Community
Morio Kishimoto, the director of Sonic Frontiers, recently shared insights with Famitsu regarding the community of modders. He confessed that the Sega team perceives modders as competition, as they have been able to address game issues before Sega could do so.
Kishimoto expressed the team’s intention to showcase the amazing possibilities if the Sonic Team could provide updates in less than a year. However, modders intervened and resolved many identified issues beforehand.
He stated, “The ‘MOD’ culture, widely popular abroad, emerged as a competitive force. Remarkably talented users overseas have preempted what we aimed to present as a fan gift.”
Noteworthy Mods Recognized by Sonic Team
In response to inquiries about mods that took Sonic Team by surprise, Kishimoto highlighted several examples created by the community that seemed to anticipate the development team’s intentions.
“For instance, new playable characters beyond Sonic, actions planned for future updates already functional. We were truly impressed,” he remarked.
He further noted, “This then posed a challenge for us to release such content as official updates. When our customers have reached this level, we must strive to surpass their expectations continually. It begs the question, ‘Is the consumer version not a competitor?'”
Modifications for Sonic Frontiers encompass diverse enhancements like additional costumes, new characters, Portuguese language support, and alterations to the color palette. These player-made changes not only surprised but also inspired the development team.
