The Future of PlayStation 6 and Next Generation Xbox
The PlayStation 6 is currently in production, along with a new Xbox, but details about Sony and Microsoft’s plans for the next generation are still unknown. However, one publisher believes that Sony and Microsoft intend to release their next-generation consoles in stores before we reach 2028.
Clues from a Canceled Project
Recently, it was discovered that Supermassive Games, the developer behind games like Until Dawn and The Quarry, was working on a Blade Runner video game, a cinematic adventure that was canceled for reasons not publicly shared. However, information about this project seems to contain clues about the PS6 and the next Xbox.
According to information found about the canceled project, Supermassive’s goal was to launch it in stores in September 2027, with versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, but also planning to release versions for PS6 and the next Xbox.
This suggests that at least some publishers and developers are already beginning to plan for future releases to produce versions for the current and next generation, indicating that they expect new consoles within the next two years.
If the PS6 and the new Xbox arrive in November 2027, this will mean a 7-year generation for the current consoles, which will certainly continue to receive various games for more years.
