Bioshock is one of the most memorable singleplayer games you can play, a first-person action title released in 2007, which has since sparked Hollywood’s excitement for an adaptation that has struggled to make significant progress.
Since 2022, Netflix has been trying to bring this adaptation to fruition, with the help of Francis Lawrence, but over these 3 years, we have yet to receive any updates on the progress. However, Lawrence suggests that they have found a writer who will finally lead them to the finish line.
Justin Rhodes, the writer responsible for Terminator: Dark Fate, has already presented the first draft of the Bioshock movie script, confirmed Lawrence in a recent conversation, where he also mentioned meeting with Rhodes to discuss his ideas for adapting the popular game.
The challenges of adapting Bioshock into a film have persisted since 2008, but the most recent version of these efforts, announced in 2022, only began to take concrete shape in 2024 when it was revealed that the project had been reconfigured and its scale reduced.
Lawrence states that the project remains alive, despite the various changes at Netflix; there is confidence in the adaptation of Bioshock, but for now, we will have to continue to wait for something concrete.
