Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater: A Modern Take on a Classic Game
Performance Concerns on PlayStation 5
Differences in Resolution and Performance
Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater has been revamped using Unreal Engine 5, bringing the beloved classic to the modern era with stunning graphics and enhanced atmosphere. However, despite the visual praise, Digital Foundry has pointed out performance issues on the PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro.
On the PS5, players can choose between a 60fps Performance mode and a 30fps Quality mode, each offering different graphic quality and resolution options. However, the 60fps mode struggles to maintain its target frame rate, especially in jungle levels and underwater sections. The situation worsens on the PS5 Pro, where performance difficulties are more pronounced.
The PS5 Pro combines both graphic quality and resolution enhancements from the Quality mode with the 60fps performance target from the Performance mode. While this unique approach provides a visually rich experience, it results in lower frame rates compared to the base PS5.
Activating VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) is recommended to mitigate performance fluctuations on the PS5. The PS5 Pro generally shows worse performance than the PS5, with larger frame rate drops at higher graphic quality settings. However, certain areas in the game exhibit better performance on the PS5 Pro.
Stay tuned for further details on the Xbox Series versions, as Digital Foundry hints at similar performance and issues compared to the PS5. For more information, check out the video on YouTube.
