Recently, the possibility of Sony buying Kadokawa Corporation, owner of several companies, including FromSoftware known for games like Elden Ring, surprised millions. However, Shawn Layden says that the two companies have enjoyed a very close relationship for many decades.

In a recent conversation with Eurogamer, Layden discussed the need to create smaller games to reduce costs and how there won’t be big leaps between generations. When asked about the potential deal, Layden mentioned the long-standing good relationship between the two companies.

Sony and Kadokawa have a history of collaboration, with Sony executives serving on Kadokawa’s board in the past. Layden also highlighted FromSoftware’s early partnership with PlayStation, dating back to the launch of the console. The company’s roots in PlayStation games before achieving worldwide fame with Demon’s Souls for PS3 in 2009 further solidify their close ties.
