Gears of War Reloaded: The New Version of the Series
Gears of War Reloaded is here, making its debut on PlayStation for the first time in the famous Xbox series. This updated version of the 2015 Ultimate Edition brings a host of technical and visual improvements that bring it up to par with the latest console and PC standards. While keeping the original Unreal Engine 3 graphics engine, The Coalition has incorporated modern solutions for a fresh experience.
Integrated Advanced Technologies
One of the key additions is the integration of technologies like native HDR rendering, enhancing shadows and light points for a more vibrant image. Upscaling has also been enhanced with the inclusion of FSR, DLSS, and PSSR to boost visual quality and stability. Lighting and shadows have been improved as well, with pre-calculated shadows in the environment offering more definition and the usage of AMD’s CACAO for ambient occlusion resulting in a cleaner and more consistent presentation.
Varying Performance Across Platforms
A technical analysis by Digital Foundry reveals that performance levels differ depending on the platform. While the 60 fps modes are consistent across all consoles, the performance in the 120 fps mode varies. The PlayStation 5 Pro shines with its higher resolution and the utilization of PSSR for a sharper image. The Xbox Series X and PS5 show similar performance, with a slight edge for Microsoft’s console in the 120 Hz mode. On PC, significant performance optimizations have been made to address previous CPU bottleneck issues. Furthermore, the game has been approved for Steam Deck, making it a great choice for those playing on portable devices.
