Hollow Knight: Silksong Release
On September 4, 2025, the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong marked the end of a six-year wait and quickly became a worldwide success. The game broke records on Steam, reaching over half a million concurrent players, and even caused instability in several digital stores on the day of its release.
Translation Troubles for Chinese Players
Chinese players complain that the Simplified Chinese version does not match the tone of the game, describing it as overly archaic and similar to classical language or martial arts novels (Wuxia). According to users, this stylistic choice hinders readability and detracts from the atmosphere that Silksong should convey. Furthermore, the situation worsened when one of the translators publicly shared excerpts from the work and comments in an antiquated tone, sparking even more criticism and frustration.
Response and Future Plans
In response to this situation, Matthew Griffin, editorial director of Team Cherry, directly addressed Chinese players through X. He acknowledged the issues and assured them that the team will work to improve the translation in the coming weeks. The studio also thanked the feedback, stating their intention to adjust the localization to better align with the spirit of the game.
