Françoise Cadol takes legal action against Aspyr Media
Françoise Cadol, known as the voice of Lara Croft in the French version of Tomb Raider games, has decided to take legal action against Aspyr Media. She feels betrayed by the producer, accusing them of cloning her voice without permission to create new lines in the recent remasters.
Allegations of voice cloning through artificial intelligence
In an interview with the French newspaper Le Parisien, Cadol revealed that she filed a formal notice to Aspyr Media due to the creation of new lines with her voice generated by artificial intelligence. The update for Tomb Raider IV-V-VI Remastered includes new lines that were not recorded by Cadol, even though the voice sounds like hers. Cadol described this as “pure theft” for “clear and deliberate commercial purposes.”
Cadol has initiated legal proceedings against Aspyr Media, and the next steps will depend on the response from the producer’s lawyers.
