Controversy Surrounding Dragon Ball Daima
Kazuhiko Torishima, editor of Akira Toriyama and collaborator on works like Dragon Ball in Weekly Shonen Jump, has not been afraid to express his opinions, even if they are controversial. He went as far as to label Dragon Ball Daima as “garbage.”
Continued Criticism
During a podcast with Yuji Horii, creator of Dragon Quest, Torishima discussed the importance of creative freedom and the repercussions of defending one’s artistic vision. He suggested that focusing on an origin story for Vegeta in Dragon Ball would be a better idea than creating something like Daima, which he criticized harshly. Despite Toriyama’s involvement in Daima, Torishima did not hesitate to share his negative views, a stance that also resonated with fans who found the series lacking in originality.
Following Akira Toriyama’s passing, there are concerns about the future of the Dragon Ball franchise, with disputes arising over intellectual property rights and the direction the series will take going forward.
