The Ubisoft announced the closure of 185 jobs and the shutdown of its studio in Leamington, UK, as part of a restructuring aimed at optimizing operational models and ensuring the company’s long-term success. This information was internally disclosed through the Agoro Newsroom, as reported by Insider Gaming.
Impactful Job Cuts and Studio Shutdown
The layoffs will affect approximately 65 jobs at Ubisoft Düsseldorf, around 100 at Leamington and Reflections facilities, and about 20 at Ubisoft Stockholm. The company clarified that most of the reductions involve production roles not associated with active projects for an extended period. Benedikt Grindel, Managing Director of Production Zone 4, stated that these decisions aim to improve operational efficiency and ensure the long-term sustainability of the studios and the company. He also added that Ubisoft is committed to supporting all affected employees during this transition.
Strategic Changes for Future Success
These measures are part of a broader assessment of Ubisoft’s global operations, seeking to adapt to a competitive market and recent challenges, including delays and underperformance of major titles. In December 2024, the company had already announced the closure of the San Francisco and Osaka studios, resulting in the dismissal of 277 workers. Ubisoft’s focus is now on upcoming projects, such as the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, set for March 20, 2025.
