The folhanos await a cure that only the crew’s doctor can administer to them, learning the true identity. These survivors tend to offer numerous secondary missions, but even more important for the progress in the narrative is the recovery of the crew.
Among their members is the doctor and with him the cure for the “folhanos”. The antidote is a kind of sap obtained in nocturnal expeditions, in some cocoons. It is produced by Pikmins that emit a green fluorescent light, like fireflies. These nocturnal missions function as a defense for the tower. It is already known that the enemy creatures in Pikmin become even more aggressive in the darkness. The best way to obtain the antidote is to keep the cocoons intact until dawn, overcoming the predators advancing in their direction while darkness covers the entire area. The number of Pikmins in the defensive task increases as stars are collected just before sunset. United, they launch a fierce attack, like a luminous green ball that pours over the creature the dozens of Pikmins, until it is undone. These nocturnal missions offer varying difficulty, but the most difficult ones, when successfully completed, offer more units of the antidote, which is essential to recover the health and identity of the many folhanos found in daytime missions and in caves.
Otchin for rescue and gadgets for more defense and skills
The scenario where the command post is installed functions as a “hub” for access to the large areas of the game. Also there, the crew members perform specific functions. In addition to the doctor, there is Coach Shepherd, Collin, and the scientist who offers a whole range of gadgets to use in combat and treasure exploration. Otchin’s training is essential and is based on several versions as this creature functions as an assistant to the main character and can be controlled separately, even having its whistle with which it gathers the Pikmin. The animations obtained throughout the days of exploration can be exchanged for various improvements, from carrying capacity for heavy objects, bites, damage resistance, and excavation. Its sense of smell can even be used to discover survivors.

All distinguished by colors and even in their traits, like the laminated appearance of the black and icy Pikmin. Otchin’s presence reformulates gameplay and makes it faster, as the reinforcement of its powers allows it to be used as an offensive element and at the same time capable of carrying heavier things, a primordial aspect in task division. At the limit of its capacity, it can harness the power of 100 Pikmin, freeing the Pikmin for other tasks, something essential in the fight against time. It is very enjoyable to manage Pikmin and Otchin’s attacks, and the collection of scattered items that can be transported to the aircraft to provide a necessary product for its operation.
The challenge of the dandori trials
If the surfaces of the areas offer a good dose of exploration and challenge, with many creatures appearing unexpectedly, it is in the caves that management is more evident and challenging, especially through the “dandori” challenges, often organized by the folhanos. They can take the form of a direct challenge, in which the folhanos control Moss (the other savior) and his Pikmin, fighting in the same area to see who achieves the best score. Other times the “dandori” challenges consist of a race against time, until a minimum eligible score is reached to end the level. Other caves work through several stages or layers until the “boss battle,” which can be very fun. The result is a wide variety of challenges, especially if the goal is to collect all the treasures and make all the discovered objects series. There is an incentive for collecting and gathering everything possible for a better score, while rescuing survivors.
