Daijo Kudo, a key figure in the world of anime at Kadokawa, believes that in order to truly make an impact on a global scale, anime producers should start considering creating animations that cater to Western tastes. This means exploring specific and popular themes that resonate with audiences outside of Japan.
Expanding Horizons
Kadokawa is looking to broaden its horizons by increasing the number of properties it publishes and venturing into creating content outside of Japan. Kudo stresses the importance of recognizing that if anime continues to gain popularity worldwide, there could be great value in producing anime in different locations around the globe.
“While we may not have fully embraced this approach yet, Kadokawa should also explore the creation of anime centered around themes such as vampires and zombies, which are highly sought after by Western viewers,” Kudo shared in an interview.
Quality First
Despite the push for global appeal, Kudo emphasizes the importance of not cutting corners. He believes in creating high-quality animations that can be monetized in various locations, not just limited to platforms like Crunchyroll. Kadokawa remains committed to its current strategy but is dedicated to ramping up efforts for global expansion.
