One of the latest trends in the video game industry is the release of more expensive versions that, in addition to extra digital content, include early access to the game and according to Circana, people are jumping on board.
After Starfield, EA Sports FC 24, The Crew: Motorfest, Lies of P, and Mortal Kombat 1, we will have other examples of games like Forza Motorsport, whose more expensive special editions include early access to the game, and it’s probably a trend that is here to stay and not just a passing fad.
Mat Piscatella from Circana, formerly NPD and the company that tracks console, game, and accessory sales in the United States, says that people are embracing this practice and although he doesn’t reveal numbers, he says it’s something that will continue to grow.
“The game versions with early access accompanied by digital content? Despite online criticism, people are buying them in significant numbers,” said Piscatella.
“I expect to see more and more of this.”
Are you part of the group of players who have already joined this practice of paying more to play earlier?
