Palworld, created by the Japanese company Pocketpair, has become a huge phenomenon, the first one of 2024, motivating several companies to try to recreate its effect. This action and survival game, once known as “Pokémon with guns”, sold over 25 million units in the first month in early access and has become one of the most played games at the moment.
Chinese Giant Inspired by Palworld
According to Bloomberg, the Chinese company Tencent didn’t overlook Palworld and has already instructed two of its main producers to create similar games to this massive success. The goal is to try to achieve the same results.
The Timi and Lightspeed teams are currently building games in the style of Palworld, which combines various genres into one experience, featuring companion creatures, stylized violence, and other mechanics that helped the Japanese title achieve global success.
Tencent’s Strategy
Tencent aims to find a new hit to not rely as much on Honor of Kings, and mimicking Palworld is one of the options being studied by the Chinese giant. Palworld was developed by a small team with extremely limited resources. Recreating the formula could be relatively easy and quick when it comes to a massive company like Tencent.
