In his latest interview, Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Gaming, revealed that he has stopped trying to convince PlayStation and Nintendo players to buy their console, opting instead to sell games in their stores and earn 70% of the revenue. This statement has sparked discussion, especially because it contradicts what Spencer said in court in 2023. However, according to Mike Ybarra, former president of Blizzard and ex-Vice President at Microsoft Gaming, this is not surprising. Ybarra reacted on the social network X, stating that they have been consistent in their message and even suggesting that the future of Xbox is limited.
Ybarra expressed his support for Xbox games being available on PC and PS5, acknowledging that loyal Xbox customers may be upset, but emphasizing that the current strategy is the right move for the business. He also proposed that PlayStation and Nintendo should work with Xbox on a friend transfer system to help people stay connected with their friends across different platforms.
Ybarra further elaborated on his views, dismissing criticisms and reiterating his belief that the future of Xbox as a console is uncertain. He emphasized the importance of the platform as a layer for social integration, pointing out the changes in Xbox Live and the indications of a shift in approach.
