EA is aiming big with the next Battlefield game, setting a goal of reaching 100 million players. This ambitious target, reported by Ars Technica based on anonymous sources, is causing some skepticism within the industry.
Inspired by the success of battle royale modes in games like Call of Duty Warzone and Fortnite, EA is looking to expand its player base significantly. While Warzone reached 100 million players in about a year and Fortnite had over 200 million players in 2018, Battlefield 2042 has only reached around 22 million players so far.
Despite doubts from sources close to the production, EA is determined to integrate a battle royale mode in the next Battlefield to attract more players. The game is currently in closed alpha testing, with leaks revealing details about game modes, weapons, and the single-player campaign.
If EA manages to hit the 100 million player mark, this next Battlefield game could become the most popular in the series’ history. However, achieving this goal will be no easy feat based on internal indicators and past game performances.
