Future of Console Gaming
Thomas Mahler, creative director at Moon Studios, expressed his belief that Sony may, in the future, adopt a strategy similar to Microsoft’s, moving away from exclusive games on its consoles.
Multiplatform Access
Mahler compared game exclusivity to the idea that certain DVDs can only be played on specific brand players, deeming this concept “crazy” in the context of movies and questioning why games should be any different.
He also highlighted the similarities in architecture between Xbox and PlayStation consoles, making cross-platform production easier, and the convergence in controller design across all platforms.
The creative director emphasized the need for the gaming industry to grow by making content more accessible to everyone. He believes that individuals should be able to choose their hardware without losing access to certain games, while noting that Nintendo will likely continue focusing on games for its own hardware.
The Moon Studios is currently working on “No Rest for the Wicked,” an action RPG available in early access on PC. The game has received various updates since its launch, including new content and bug fixes, with a major update in July 2024 introducing the Cerim Crucible dungeon.
