The decision to add a third-person perspective to Resident Evil Requiem was made in response to feedback that Resident Evil 7 was too scary for some players. The game, initially released in January 2017 with only a first-person perspective, continued this choice in the 2021 title Village. However, the third-person perspective was later added to Village with the Rose storyline expansion in the Gold Edition.
Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7, carried over his role to Requiem and incorporated both perspectives right from the start. His intention was to make the game less intimidating for those who found the first-person mode too scary. Nakanishi explained, “Looking back at the first-person perspective in Resident Evil 7, I implemented it to make the game more immersive and scarier than ever. I think most of the press and players agree that it’s incredibly terrifying, but perhaps it’s just too scary.”
For players who find the first-person perspective too intense, Resident Evil Requiem offers the option to switch to third-person for a slightly less terrifying experience. Nakanishi believes that this choice can make the game more accessible and enjoyable for a wider audience.
