Hogwarts Legacy is coming to the Nintendo Switch today, several months after its original release, and it’s no less surprising that a game of this size can fit on the hybrid console.
Of course, this has resulted in a noticeable decrease in its graphical quality but, as if that wasn’t enough, the game now contains a series of loading screens that did not exist in the original version and that could detract from the feeling of immersion.
In previous versions of the game, players could travel between Hogwarts and Hogsmeade without any loading screens; on the Switch, however, players will have to press a button before entering the village of Hogsmeade, which suggests that we are not dealing with an open world but rather various interconnected sections.
This loading screen can last between 30 and 50 seconds; after entering the village, you will be “treated” with more loading screens if you want to enter the shops, something that does not happen in other versions.
“One of the most appealing things for me when I first played [on PC] was being able to look at the shops and walk through the door,” we hear in the video above. “Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.”
“When you get to the door, you will have the option to enter [through a button prompt], and then you will have to wait – you probably have guessed – between 30 to 50 seconds to load the interior.”
You can see everything in more detail in the video, around the 8:47 minute mark. This is certainly bad news for players, but it was certainly a necessary change to run the game on this weaker console.
