New World Interactive layoffs in 2023
New World Interactive is the latest game developer to face layoffs in 2023, joining other high-profile companies in the entertainment industry that have also implemented job cuts.
Embracer Group acquisition and restructuring
Embracer Group acquired New World Interactive in 2020, a move that signaled a shift in strategy for the company. As part of this restructuring, the studio behind games like Insurgency and Day of Infamy is now experiencing layoffs as Embracer Group closes some of its studios.
In response to inquiries from Eurogamer, Embracer Group stated that Saber Interactive, a subsidiary, has made changes in the organizational structure that have resulted in an undisclosed number of employees being let go.
Despite the layoffs, projects like Insurgency: Sandstorm are still in development. Saber Interactive has committed to assisting affected employees in finding new opportunities, even outside of the gaming industry.
