Update
Sony has already addressed the issue, reverting the update that had altered the behavior of the PlayStation 5 menu. Now game menus have returned to displaying the original background images, restoring the visual experience that users were accustomed to before the recent update. Although the fix was implemented quickly, the high volume of complaints from players may have been a determining factor in Sony’s swift response.
The Recent PlayStation 5 Update
The recent PlayStation 5 update, released in September 2024, is causing widespread dissatisfaction among players. The most criticized change was the replacement of traditional game art on the home screen with promotional ads and news, often irrelevant or outdated. Games like Horizon Zero Dawn started showing ads for upcoming titles, such as Lego Horizon Adventures, confusing users. Furthermore, there is no option to disable these changes without disconnecting the console from the internet.
Player Criticisms
Players criticize these changes for making the interface visually cluttered and disorganized, especially with ads for games that have already been purchased. This negative feedback has been widely shared on social media, where many have expressed their frustration at the lack of options to control what is displayed on the home screen. To make matters worse, the only solution presented so far is to disconnect the console from the internet, removing online functionality.
Official Response
As of now, Sony has not provided an official response on the matter, leaving open the possibility of a change or correction in future updates.
