The Swedish producer MachineGames has revealed that the Wolfenstein story, centered around BJ Blazkowicz, was always intended to be a trilogy. In a recent interview for a Noclip documentary, Jerk Gustafsson, the co-founder and director of the studio, confirmed that the plan was to wrap up the narrative with a third game. While there hasn’t been an official announcement for Wolfenstein 3 yet, Gustafsson expressed his hope to continue the saga, stating, “I hope Wolfenstein is not over yet. We have a story to tell.”
Following the release of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus in 2017, the franchise saw a cooperative spin-off, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, in 2019. However, the main storyline of BJ Blazkowicz remained untouched. MachineGames also produced the game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, launched in 2024, along with its recent DLC, The Order of Giants.
Even with other projects on the horizon, Gustafsson stressed that the development team has always envisioned BJ Blazkowicz’s journey as a complete arc, planned since the early days of The New Order production. The evolution of the character from a lone fighter to a resistance leader and father figure is a crucial part of the carefully crafted narrative.
While MachineGames has been busy with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, they remain interested in continuing BJ Blazkowicz’s story. Although there have been no official updates on a new Wolfenstein game, Gustafsson’s comments hint that the main trilogy might still come to fruition.
