The Pokémon Company Responds to Unauthorized Use of Intellectual Property
The Pokémon Company has made it clear that they were not involved in the creation of a video posted by the United States Department of Homeland Security. The video, which used images and music from the Pokémon saga to promote actions related to immigration and deportation, quickly went viral.
Unauthorized Use of Pokémon Intellectual Property
Referred to as “Gotta Catch ‘Em All”, the video featured images of detentions with visual elements from the anime, such as Ash Ketchum mixed with police operations. Additionally, illustrations in the style of Pokémon cards were used to depict the detained individuals. The company stated that their name and intellectual property were used without permission.
Don McGowan, a former legal director of the company, mentioned that legal action has not been confirmed yet. He also emphasized that the company typically avoids public exposure and would likely not engage in such matters.
