PlayStation 5 Sales Increase in Japan
The Famitsu has not yet shared its numbers for the sale of consoles and physical games in Japan, but David Gibson has revealed that the PlayStation 5 has experienced a 136% sales growth and the Remake of Resident Evil 4 is one of the best debuts of 2023.
The analyst at MST Financial, located in Tokyo, shared on Twitter that in March 2023, the PS5 saw a 136% increase in sales compared to March 2022, suggesting around 220,000 units sold throughout this month. In March 2022, 92,000 PS5 consoles were sold in Japan, and Gibson mentions more than double the units sold.
Success of Resident Evil 4 Remake
Regarding the remake of Resident Evil 4, Gibson stated that over 175,000 physical units were sold in the PlayStation 5 and PS4 versions, a result superior to Village, which sold 150,000 units in May 2021 on PS5 and PS4.
Sony ensured that it would be much easier to find a PS5, to the point where walking into a store and seeing a unit ready to grab and go becomes common, something that they are achieving and translating into strong sales increases.
In Japan, Resident Evil RE:4 sold 175k PS4/PS5 units in its first week, compares to 150k for RE Village across PS4/PS5 in May 2021. #RE4remake PS5 in March so far in volumes is +136% YoY #PS5
