McDonald’s Japan Postpones One Piece Trading Card Game Promo
McDonald’s Japan has announced the cancellation of a promotional activity related to the One Piece Trading Card Game, following the unfortunate situation that occurred with the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
Delayed Promotion
The company announced that the promotion where customers could get One Piece TCG cards with a “Happy Meal” purchase has been postponed and will not start on August 29. McDonald’s Japan even stated that the promotion may not even be launched as they have reviewed the measures related to the Happy Meal.
Reacting to Pokémon Chaos
Although not directly mentioned by McDonald’s Japan, it seems to be a response to the chaos surrounding the Pokémon promotional campaign in early August in Japan. The presence of Pokémon TCG cards in Happy Meal menus led to people hoarding meals, abandoning them on city sidewalks after collecting the cards.
