Last week, Bobby Kotick officially stepped down from his position as CEO of Activision Blizzard. Employees of the company took the opportunity to reveal some less than happy facts about their work under the leadership of the former boss.
Impact on Game Quality
Christina Pollock, a former programmer, criticized Kotick’s leadership decisions, which she claimed had a negative impact on the games. She shared her thoughts on the matter on platform X:
“I worked on COD for two years as a programmer at demonware. Bobby’s decisions made our games worse. In my first month, it came out that he threatened to have an employee killed. In the all-hands meeting that followed, no one wanted to speak up first. So I demanded his firing in front of everyone.”
Other professionals have also openly discussed the impact of Kotick on the organization. Community manager Andy Belford also spoke about how Kotick’s decision-making affected morale.
“When we planned the release of Overwatch 2 on Steam, my team warned (months in advance) that we would be bombarded with negative reviews. We begged for more information, more details, and more resources to help us with the expected influx, all of which were categorically denied,” said Belford.
“When asked who decided to launch on Steam without additional help: Bobby,” he concluded.
These statements come as no surprise, as Kotick’s name has been associated with negative situations within Activision Blizzard for years. Check out the posts mentioned above for more details.
