After more than a decade of being banned, Grand Theft Auto V has finally been released today in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The distribution was made possible thanks to the adult rating of over 21 given by the General Authority for Media Regulation of the country, allowing adults to play the game without any cuts or censorship to the original content.
The release includes both the original version and the updated Expanded & Enhanced version, featuring graphical improvements for the new generation consoles such as ray tracing, HDR lighting, enhanced textures, and faster loading times. The digital and physical versions for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox, and PC are now available in local and online stores.
Approval for GTA V in these countries comes after 12 years of it being rejected due to violence, explicit content, and drug use that did not align with the local culture. With the new adult rating of over 21, the game can now be sold and played by everyone in the region.
The recent partnership with the Advanced Initiative Company, the official distributor of Take-Two in the Gulf markets, hints at a possible simultaneous release of GTA VI in these countries without any delays when it is globally launched.
