Earlier this month, Digital Foundry had the opportunity to experience the PlayStation 5 Pro at Sony’s London facilities, capturing high-quality footage of The Last of Us Part 2 and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Our analysis compared each game on the Pro and standard models, as well as the upscaling quality of PSSR compared to DLSS and FSR. One feedback we received was the request to see more games running without the usual side-by-side comparisons.
Eurogamer brings you exactly that, starting with the PSSR update for The Last of Us Part 2 on the PS5 Pro from Naughty Dog. The Pro version focuses on upscaling, utilizing Sony’s machine learning-based upscaling. While the base resolution of 1440p remains unchanged on the standard PS5, PSSR provides substantial improvements in image quality – as showcased in this extended video focusing on the overall presentation.
In addition to the footage, you can hear our overall impressions from both myself and Oliver Mackenzie (both of us have played the Pro version at this point), along with a broader discussion on the opportunities we had with the game and the Pro version in general. Stay tuned for new content on Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, as well as exclusive content on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth with commentary from Oliver and John Linneman (both have played the game). Keep an eye out for that in due time.
