The Future of Final Fantasy 14
Naoki Yoshida, the producer of Final Fantasy 14, has been discussing the future of his MMORPG, which is still going strong on the PlayStation 4 since 2013 and may be making its way to the upcoming consoles from Sony and Microsoft.
New Consoles and the Current State of Hardware
Yoshida recently shared his thoughts on the future of Final Fantasy 14, mentioning potential versions for the PS6 and the new Xbox to reach a wider player base. However, he believes that the current consoles are already powerful enough, with no immediate need for new hardware.
According to Yoshida, the latest consoles offer impressive performance, eliminating the constraints of the past. While the PS6 and new Xbox will enhance the gaming experience, he feels that current consoles like the Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 are satisfying player needs. Additionally, from a player’s perspective, investing in new hardware can be costly.
The Future of the PS4 Version
In addition to discussing future consoles, Yoshida addressed the support for the PS4 version of Final Fantasy 14, hinting at its eventual discontinuation. While Sony has allowed updates to push the limits of the PS4 version, both companies are nearing the maximum capacity of their systems, leading to the eventual phasing out of the PS4 version.
