Microsoft Shuts Down The Initiative Studio
The Initiative, the studio once associated with Xbox’s efforts to expand and reach new audiences, has been shut down and Perfect Dark has been canceled as part of Microsoft’s latest round of layoffs.

Matt Booty delivered the news in a message highlighting the need to take such measures to ensure long-term success for Microsoft Gaming. According to Windows Central, which obtained the statement sent to the studio, the closure of The Initiative was described.
While Perfect Dark may have been canceled, Booty mentioned that there are over 40 active projects in the works. In addition to the games already announced for 2025, Xbox has a strong lineup planned for 2026.
