Microsoft’s Appeal Against CMA Decision
The UK appeals court has scheduled a hearing for Microsoft in July, where the tech giant will present its arguments to show how the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) erred in opposing the purchase of Activision Blizzard King.
In April, the CMA decided to block the deal between Microsoft and Activision, citing concerns related to cloud technology. According to the CMA, Microsoft would gain a dominant position in this emerging technology, creating immediate disadvantages for future players.
Microsoft has criticized the CMA’s decision, along with Activision, and has appealed to the UK government. The appeal process will be brought to court on July 24.
The appeals court has scheduled 10 days for the process, but it is not expected to require all of those days for a final decision. It simply aims to allow both sides enough time to present their arguments.
Both Microsoft and Activision argue that the CMA’s decision is flawed and believe it will be easily proven in court that their rulings are incorrect.
