The year 2023 is almost coming to an end and once again we are here to share with you the games that have captivated us the most over these 12 months. This year has been one of pure excellence, with popular titles making a comeback to spread magic. From remakes to remasters, new properties to well-known names in the world of interactive entertainment, there have been plenty of incentives to escape to other realities.
Alan Wake 2
After more than 10 years of waiting, Remedy Entertainment finally delivered one of my most anticipated games of all time. Alan Wake 2 is a glory to single-player gaming, an intellectually and visually stimulating experience rarely seen, using sound to create a genius effect. From the forest to Saga’s mind, from the Hotel to the Dark Place with Wake, the gameplay moments reach greatness thanks to the orchestration of visual and sound components, not to mention the real-time visual transformations. In creating such a finely-tuned survival horror experience, Remedy ensured that Alan Wake 2 stands out above all else as a superb interactive entertainment.
Apart from this choice for Game of the Year, we also present honorable mentions, titles that have also enthralled each member of the team. Passion plays a significant role in our choices, reflecting who we are as individuals. These are reflections of our preferences and experiences:
– The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: An epic Ghibli-like adventure realized through Nintendo’s latest effort in this legendary series. With a better treatment of narrative without interfering with exploration freedom, islands in the sky with clever puzzles, challenging temples, and a mysterious underworld to explore, Tears of the Kingdom is a triumph in game development and one of the best games I have ever played.
– Octopath Traveler 2: While the world talks about Forspoken and Final Fantasy 16, true Square Enix fans know that this was the great JRPG of 2023. A delightful and charming game that pays homage to the classics that made you fall in love with this genre, combining inspiration from Square Enix references from the 90s with new mechanics like the Break system, aesthetics, soundtrack, and characters, making Octopath Traveler 2 a wonder of Japanese productions.
